	Acolyte Instructions You will be the acolyte on the date you are scheduled for ONE WORSHIP SERVICE. If you need to change with another acolyte, please notify the church office of the change for the Worship Bulletin. 9:00 WORSHIP SERVICE: Arrive fifteen (15) minutes before service to make sure the taper and candlelighter are ready to go. NO chewing gum! Please dress appropriately as you are performing a task to recognize and worship the presence of God. A nice dress, pair of slacks/trousers and dress shoes would be preferred. No jeans, shorts or flip-flops. The candlelighter will be in the left-hand closet when facing the Sanctuary in the Narthex. During the first congregational song, Light the wick, enter through the sanctuary doors and walk down the center aisle SLOWLY. Light the right candle first, then the candle on the left (see lighting instructions below). After candles are lit, draw the wick into the candlelighter to extinguish the flame. When finished, exit SLOWLY out the center aisle. During the singing of the last hymn SLOWLY come up the center aisle with the candlelighter unlit. Extinguish the left candle first. Light the wick of the candlelighter, then extinguish the right candle. Walk slowly out of the sanctuary with the candlelighter lit. Upon leaving the doors, you may draw the wick into the candlelighter to extinguish the flame. Please place the candlelighter back in the closet. LIGHTING & EXTINGUISHING CANDLES: Lighting candles for regular service: Light the LEFT candle first – (Christ Candle) PAUSE at the cross Light the RIGHT candle second–(Peoples Candle) Extinquish the candlelighter Extinguishing candles for regular service: Extinguish RIGHT candle first PAUSE at the cross Light the candlelighter from the LEFT candle Extinguish the LEFT candle and take the flame out into the world. Lighting ALL the candles for special services: Light the Christ Candle (left) PAUSE at the cross Light the People's Candle (right) PAUSE at the cross Light the Left Candelabras (bottom to top) PAUSE at the cross Light the Right Candelabras (bottom to top) Extinguishing ALL the candles for special services: Extinguish the Right Candelabras (top to bottom) PAUSE at the cross Extinguish the Left Candelabras (top to bottom) PAUSE at the cross Extinguish the Peoples Candle (right) PAUSE at the cross Light the candlelighter from the Christ Candle (left) Extinguish the Christ Candle (left)
