The Indian Mobile Mission (IMM) was founded 42 years ago by Sylvia Webb. It is a Christian outreach striving to bring Jesus Christ and His love to the Navajo people of Northern Arizona. They believe that helping children complete their education will enhance their lives and they strongly stress reading. They also help sponsor at-risk children who have no family support. When Sylvia arrived in Arizona she needed to learn about the Navajo people and the language. Read her story on the website www.indianmobilemission.com. She discovered that the children only completed the 3rd grade. She started writing letters for items for children, and the mission now, as then, has children you can sponsor. These children are sponsored from Kindergarten age thru 5th grade. All correspondence is forwarded through IMM. Trips can be made to IMM, however, they must be pre-arranged with an escort to get on the reservation. The support from the church is thru the Adult Sunday School Class and a percentage of interest from the Bailets Legacy. Please see the church bulletin board in the North corridor for notes from Sylvia and Ken. Evelyn Miller is the contact person from our church. If you are interested in sponsoring a child or maybe just hearing more about IMM, you can find Evie in church on Sunday mornings or contact the church office for more information. |
